Mission
The mission of the certificate in Population Health is to improve the health of individuals and communities by forming inspired early and mis-careerists into compassionate, competent and spiritual servant managers and leaders for health service organizations.
Program Goals
- 80% of enrolled students will complete the certificate program.
- 80% of graduates who seek gainful employment or career advancement will accomplish that successfully.
- 60% of graduates will be involved in community service and/or a professional organization that actively is working to support population health programs.
- 80% of graduating seniors will rate themselves as well-prepared or prepared in their ability to apply population health concepts to assess and promote better health for all members of the community
Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Upon completion of the Certificate in Population Health students will be able to:
- Describe the major trends and explanations in morbidity and mortality rates of population growth, age composition, birth rates, death rates and causes of death historically and currently.
- Explain the effects of disease, fitness, diet and lifestyle effects on individual and community health within specific population groups and groups who are living with a chronic disease.
- Describe ways that demographic trends, population distribution and globalization affect the health of individuals.
- Evaluate relevant population health issues in the community and in the workplace and develop evidence-based programs to enhance population health specific to access, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Critically evaluate current population health programs and their ability to promote healthy lifestyles and improve the health of the population, locally and nationally.
