Medical Leave of Absence Policy

FranU is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive environment for all students. Any student with a condition (illness, infection, injury, pregnancy, etc.) that necessitates leaving an assignment or results in an extended absence of 3 or more days must discuss their situation with his/her instructors and Campus Health and Wellness.

Students may choose to continue with their program with the understanding that they are expected to satisfactorily meet the same standards of course and classroom performance as are the other students enrolled in the program as well as adhering to academic policies that apply to all students.

Procedures Related to Absence

Following an absence described above, the student may return to class after obtaining medical documentation of the student's ability to participate in all activities inherent in the course description. The student must contact the Student Health and Wellness Office regarding how to obtain a “Return to Class/Clinical Form”. Students must provide medical documentation regarding dates of illness and any activity restrictions prescribed.

An illness requiring an extended absence that prevents the completion of coursework because of circumstances beyond the student’s control, may necessitate the process for an “I” grade, withdrawal, or resignation. To qualify for an I-grade the student must meet the I-grade policy (I-Grade Policy). The student must initiate the appropriate process following established guidelines listed within this catalog and/or discipline specific student handbooks.
