PTAP 2710 Intro to Physical Therapy
This course is designed to give the physical therapist assistant student fundamental understanding of the provision of healthcare, based on a foundation of the University and program mission. Emphasis is placed on provision of physical therapy services, scope of practice of the physical therapist assistant and the physical therapist, factors influencing the delivery of service, relationships and communication relative to patients and other health care providers, legal and ethical issues related to health care, and documenting in the medical record. The student participates in clinical experiences which are designed to provide an opportunity to observe and practice professional behaviors; interact with patients, families and health care providers to demonstrate core values and the University mission; become familiar with medical records and the patient chart; and observe parameters of the physical therapist assistant scope of practice. Critical thinking skills are developed during class discussion, participation in clinical experiences and in small group activities. Assignments and class activities allow for reflection of the student€™s own vocation within the healthcare field and possession of professional behaviors required.
